Hi there! My name is Steve, and I love everything outdoors. I’ve been going camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, and just about every other outdoor activity you can think of since I can remember. Some of my favorite memories as a kid growing up were exploring the woods on our family camping trips and “living of the land” so to speak. Fishing in the morning and cooking up that day’s food in the afternoon was so much fun and so rewarding.
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t seem to make it out into the great outdoors much these days, or when they do they take RVs and campers and go to a manicured park that is far from the outdoors that I grew up exploring. Now, there’s nothing wrong with taking an RV camping, but I think everyone should experience the great outdoors at least a few times in their lives. You know, sleeping on the ground and looking up at the stars. Cooking fresh over an open-flamed campfire. Hiking with my bug out backpack. It’s a beautiful thing!
My blog here, realsurvivalist.com, is a place where I go to recount my adventures outside as well as hopefully give some people who aren’t sure about taking an old fashioned camping trip the impetus they need to get out there and try it! I hope you leave my blog with two main things. One, the desire to go outside and experience all that mother nature has to offer and two, the resources and knowledge necessary to do so.
Because let’s be honest, camping outdoors can be a bit tricky for someone who’s never done it before. Someone who has never started a fire, cleaned a fish, built a shelter to stay under. It can be tricky, but that’s what I’m here for! :]
I know that to some “city-folk” camping, staying outdoors, fishing, etc., seems like a survivalist lifestyle, but after you give it a try, I’m sure you’ll find it just as rewarding as the rest of us.
